Thursday - My mom came over to get a bit of a head start on the demo of the basement. Come to find out the paneling that we thought had no insulation under it, had a good amount and a vapor barrier!!! (good news) We then decided that we should pull off one of the sides of the fireplace - just to see what was behind there. It was lovely! So we got our stuff packed together and headed out trying to find out what we should do with the front of the fireplace. It is a large brick wall that sticks out about 3 ft from the wall. Kind of massive looking.
Friday - Brought on a great surprise, Vinegar is the greatest thing! It took the wallpaper off the walls in sheets. (good news) It was so nice and came off so easily. We were all very surprised.

What came to us as a surprise was that we decided that taking out the chimney would be the best way to prevent cold air coming into our basement. So David (Eric's dad) pulled out his hacksaw and got to work. After about 5 hours - of course that including a break so the kids could nap - this is where I found David. (bad news) David and Eric worked really hard to get that pipe out. They eventually did and we made $2.40 off the 60lbs of metal that came from the 3 layers the chimney contained. What an ordeal!!!! But it is out and we think that it will really change help the downstairs come winter.
Needless to say after the day we had, we did not go to fireworks this year! We will have to wait for next year. That's fine we all were pretty exhausted by the end of the day.Saturday brought relaxing times with the Whites and the Brees (check out Jeanie's blog for more pictures) The kids got to play in the pool and the sprinkler. We found out that I am no good at bags, Eryn likes to lay out on the bag boards and stick her face in the hole, that Nathaniel likes to carry around the bags and Olivia is just a sweet girl who likes her music!!
Here are a couple of pictures from our relaxing day.

All of your hard work will certainly pay off. I enjoyed my spackling (sp?) job...ha ha!
Again, we had so much for at Joe and Krista's party. Some people needed to blow off a little more steam than others though :) On Friday do you want us to pick up pizza again before coming to get Olivia? I'm sure I will talk to you again soon. Remind me that I have a question to ask you. Look at me....pretending this is an e-mail. Hopefully you read this!!
